What's
ten feet nine inches tall, can rope a buffalo and packs more fun into
an hour than a day at FAO Schwarz? Give up? It's Cathy Fink & Marcy
Marxer.
These two remarkable entertainers have managed to blend elements of music
and comedy, instrument making, history lessons, creative conflict resolution
and trick roping into one of the most contagiously high-spirited children's
and family shows around. Their live performances have set the standard
for family participation and fun while their recordings have inspired
kids, parents, grandparents, teachers and friends to sing together and
enjoy the magic of music.
Cathy & Marcy have ten GRAMMY® nominations
to their credit including their CD’s Pocket Full of Stardust,
All Wound Up! A Family Music Party, Pillow Full of Wishes, Changing Channels,
Blanket Full of Dreams, cELLAbration:A Tribute to Ella Jenkins and
for producing Dinorock’s Dreamosaurus and Tom Paxton’s
Your Shoes, My Shoes. Their CD, Bon Appétit!
won the 2004 GRAMMY Award for Best Musical Album for Children.
The CD and growing concern about health and nutrition for children has
inspired the duo to offer a new concert also titled, “Bon
Appétit”. On Feb. 13, 2005, the duo won a second
GRAMMY® Award as artists and producers of cELLAbration:A Tribute
to Ella Jenkins.
Cathy & Marcy have won numerous other awards for their children's
and family music from Parents' Choice Foundation, The Oppenheim Toy
Portfolio, American Library Association, Early Childhood News and
the Washington Area Music Association They bring their experience
from thousands of performances to every one of their children’s
and family concerts. They are committed to quality entertainment showcasing
excellent musicianship and theatrical production, age-appropriate material,
challenging ideas and loads of sing along fun!
Travel the word through instruments that originated from all over- the
banjo (Africa), guitar (Spain), mandolin (Italy), steel drum (Carribean),
ashiko drum (Africa), and a variety of homemade instruments. Play "Air
Guitar" with the whole audience, become a graduate of the Cathy &
Marcy School of Clapping Techniques, learn to yodel, sing the Alphabet
Boogie backwards or learn American Sign Language to "Take Good Care
of Each Other". A Cathy & Marcy concert is a musical experience
that will make a lasting impression. |

That
was the most special, wonderful concert I've ever been to. Thank you
both.
Your warmth through music and in person continues to amaze us. To
say we are fans seems understated somehow.
My children will only go to sleep to "All Wound Up." We had
to have (one child’s) vocals cords checked because he sings so
loud that he's horse quite often. Thanks again for assisting in bringing
gladness into our home.
Cheers and Happy Holidays.
My lucky daughter, Julia, is growing up listening to your music, starting
with Jump Children & Grandma Slid Down the Mountain. She's 12 now
and still ends her day listening to Pillows Full of Wishes. Julia’s
Dad.

BON
APPETIT! MUSICAL FOOD FUN
with CATHY FINK AND MARCY MARXER
Songs from the GRAMMY® winning CD "Bon Appétit!"
(Best Musical Album for Children, 2004)
|
|
This
collection of good humor songs celebrates healthy eating, healthy
kids and the fun of food performed by the GRAMMY® Award winning duo, Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer. The concert menu
includes sing-along songs in many different musical styles from
the Celtic sounds of “Water” to the ukulele jazz of
“Five A Day” and Carribean steel drum of “All
The Nations Like Banana”. These songs have become companions
to many nutrition programs across the country. They were developed
after much research and consultation with children’s nutritionists
from the World Bank and the Center for Science in the Public Interest.
Cathy & Marcy rock out with “The Food Pyramid”, celebrate
the magnificent “Potato”, and sing about “Breakfast
Power”. A Hula Hoop contest to Big Band swing music reminds us
that exercise is fun both indoors and out. Songs are accompanied on
guitar, five-string banjo, steel drum, ukulele and mandolin.
Add a children’s chorus: Cathy & Marcy are adept at working
with a music teacher or choral director in advance of the concert in
order to have a children’s chorus from your community join them
on some of their songs. This has been very successful in many venues
and adds local pride to each program.

COUNTRY MUSIC JAMBOREE |
 |
Commissioned by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
Theatre Debut: John F. Kennedy Center, Washington, D.C., February 24-26, 2006
http://www.kennedy-center.org
GRAMMY® winners Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer bring toe-tappin’, hand clappin’, sing along fun to their Country Music Jamboree. Take an exciting journey through the roots of America’s Country Music from the British Isles to the Grand Ole Opry and beyond.
With the Jamboree Band band, you’ll hear fiddle, guitar, five-string banjo, dobro, steel guitar, mandolin and the upright bass along with some fine country harmony singing. From the early front porch string band music of the 1920’s to the country swing of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys, western yodeling styles of the 1930’s and bluegrass of the 1940’s and 1950’s, these sounds developed here in the United States with influences from the British Isles, from African American traditions and from America’s “melting pot”. |
 |
The show’s repertoire will give a broad appreciation of the organic roots of early country music and a glance at its progressions through the years. In the age of the ipod and electronic music, family audiences will be treated to a look at how music was made a hundred years ago on the front porch. You’ll hear an acapella ballad, real music on the home made cigar box fiddle, songs and comedy from the early days of country music radio, bluegrass classics and even Dolly Parton’s heartwarming “Coat of Many Colors”. Dolly tells the story behind that song herself on video. Additional video clips from the Country Music Hall of Fame Archives will be used interstitially to help audiences visualize those early days in country music history. Kids and families will be inspired by the seven year old Rickie Skaggs joining Lester Flatt & Learl Scruggs on stage!
The Kennedy Center commissioned Cathy & Marcy to create the new show as a perfect way to combine their talents in country music stylings with their experience as the country’s premiere family entertainers. They are back-to-back GRAMMY winners in the children’s music field and have 9 additional nominations in children’s music and folk music. |
 |
Cathy & Marcy’s relationship with country music goes back over 25 years. Both artists enjoyed playing country music while performing at folk clubs and festivals in the 1970’s and 1980’s. From 1983-1995 they toured, performed and recorded with one of country music’s early stars, Patsy Montana. Ms. Montana was the first woman in country music to sell one million records (1935, “I Wanna Be A Cowboy’s Sweetheart”). They have also researched and performed radio and concert shows on the history of women in country music. In 1988 the duo produced and performed on the “Blue Rose” recording which led to a television appearance on The Nashville Network.
The hour long show will include a mock fiddle contest, yodeling, cowgirl lariat rope tricks, audience sing-along participation and most importantly, down home country music. |

This wonderful heartfelt tribute to great American music can be enjoyed by both new and old fans of country/ bluegrass/ honkytonk/ old-timey sounds. Not only does it feature brilliant singin' and playin', the country music Jamboree combines music with visual effects that flash out both the high times and heartbreaks found in "the country of Country."
---Michael Jaworek, The Birchmere Music Hall
You two are so easy with which to work, tht the whole experience-from the conceiving of the idea through its development to performance-was just wonderful.
---Darrell M. Ayers, Vice President, Education, The Kennedy Center
2 show options
1) Sixty Five minute show with no intermission for schools, kids, families.
2) For evening audiences, the show can be expanded to include an intermission and a 35-40 minute concert of country, bluegrass and western swing classics. All ages welcome – a wonderful multigenerational appeal.
