SUMMER/FALL
2008:
The year is someplace between wonderful and a blur, though the blur is wonderful! A day never goes by where we don’t recognize our good luck to play and create music for a living, make new friends everywhere and enjoy our home town, too. |

Cathy & Marcy are presenters at the Grammys, Feb. 2008 |
We’ve been from coast to coast performing, recording and expanding our horizons.
In February, the dynamic duo hosted the pre-televised GRAMMY® Awards, giving out 15 GRAMMYs. It included Barack Obama’s Award (best spoken word). He wasn’t there, but we were quoted everywhere in the A.P. that “he’ll have to meet us to get his award”. That’s not true, but it made the news!
Shortly after the GRAMMY® Awards, we started collaborating a bit with two amazing Hip Hop artists. Christylez Bacon, from Washington DC, came on our radar through the Strathmore Artist in Residence program. We’ve jammed, performed a bit together, and look forward to more. He’s a talented songwriter, instrumentalist and beat box artist. Beat box (mouth drums) and banjo are way fun.
We also visited with HAPA, an internationally known Hip Hop DJ who runs the L.A. Scratch Academy. After a monstrous jam, we’re all hoping to find a way to do some recording together. |
|
| We’ve been working on several recording projects-one’s not ready to talk about yet, but soon. Marcy produced a new recording for our DinoRock friends called, “Junkyard Pirates”. It accompanied a wonderful show on recycling. Cathy produced and engineered a new CD songbook for Ysaye Barnwell of Sweet Honey in the Rock to be released this winter. |
GET THE NEW VIDEO PODCAST & BLOG
Late spring, we took a trip to CATHY & MARCY’S SONGSHOP®. With friends to help, we recorded 8 songs for a brand new series of video podcasts. It’s informal, REAL, fresh and NOT ON TV. Subscribe to the feed & get the whole series. Our new BLOG will have words and chords to every song so you & your family can play and sing along, or on your own. Why? The Coloring Corner on the video podcast is featuring artwork from fans, so send your in to podcasts@cathymarcy.com electronically, or to Community Music, Inc. PO Box 5778 Takoma Park, MD 20913. |

2 more things for now:
FRANCE- Oui, je parle Francais! You can see ALL of the photos of our trip to France at http://gallery.mac.com/cfink2#100071 Castles, the Eiffel Tower, the Django Reinhardt Festival, etc. We had a lovely time visiting the Django Fest, visiting Django’s grave, jamming with other Djangophiles and even accidentally meeting our youtube fans from around the word. Cathy spoke French constantly and Marcy spoke guitar. A great mix!
THE SECOND ANNUAL OLD TIME BANJO FESTIVAL takes place July 12-13 at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA and Jammin Java in Vienna, VA. We’re so excited to hear Mike Seeger, Roni Stoneman, Paul Brown, Reed Martin, Dan Gellert, the Hoover Uprights and others. Eventually, parts of the show will make it to youtube.
That’s all the news for now. We ain’t bored yet and there’s plenty more to do. Email us at info@cathymarcy.com, stay cool, wear your bike helmet when appropriate, lots of sun screen and let’s all continue on the path of peace. More music! As the first podcast says, “It’s Better When We Sing It Together”
