The duo's original songwriting has won national recognition and acclaim. Cathy's song, "Names", an anthem for the AIDs Memorial Quilt, has been recorded by over 30 artists internationally and won a Mid Atlantic Songwriter’s Association Award. She co-wrote “Survivors of the Storm” with Tom Paxton, in honor of the Child Assault Prevention (CAP) program. Marcy has twice won recognition from the John Lennon Songwriting Competition and has written three independent film scores. Between them, the duo has penned over 200 songs, many recorded and sung by other artists.

Amongst their talents, Cathy & Marcy have successfully written music and lyrics for many special theme projects, commissions and causes they believe in.

2005: “SCAT LIKE THAT”
becomes Grand Prize Winner in the Children’s Music Category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. The title song of Cathy & Marcy’s GRAMMY® nominated CD also won the USA international Songwriting Contest in the Children’s field.

2004:
Marcy, Tom Paxton and Grace Griffith write “Ten Thousand Candles” and donate the song to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (unrecorded to date)

2003: Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Awards given to both Cathy & Marcy in composition.

2002: The Micronutrient Intitiative funded a project on health and nutrition for children and families. Bon Appétit! Includes original songs by Cathy & Marcy. It won the 2004 GRAMMY® Award, Parents’ Choice Gold Award and Washington Area Music Association Award.

1998: Meet The Composer Awarded Cathy & Marcy with a grant to compose songs with elementary school students. A residency at the University Park Elementary School in Maryland yielded 3 songs that were included on the GRAMMY® nominated recording, “Pillow Full of Wishes”.

1996: Work Family Directions and AT&T commission Cathy & Marcy to write songs on media literacy & creative conflict resolution for the recording, Changing Channels, which goes on toe win a GRAMMY® nomination and multiple other industry awards.

1996: Inspired by parents at their family concerts, Cathy & Marcy compose comedy songs for and about parents recorded on the CD “A Parents’ Home Companion”.

1994: Work Family Directions commissions Cathy & Marcy to write songs for a pre-school safety tape, distributed privately.

1992: A New View reading curriculum for McGraw Hill School Publishers includes many songs composed by Cathy & Marcy and 80 songs produced by them.

1988: Cathy writes anthem for the Names Quilt. Over 30 recordings by other artists are made. The song is translated to Japanese by Tomoya Takaishi. Cathy & Marcy toured Japan with Tomoya and the Japanese Names Quilt volunteers.
